Knowledge Objects and Mental - Models
نویسنده
چکیده
Cognitive psychology suggests that a mental-model consists of two major components: knowledge structures (schema) and processes for using this knowledge (mental operations). A major concern of instructional design is the representation and organization of subject matter content to facilitate learning. The thesis of this paper is that the careful analysis of subject matter content (knowledge) can facilitate both the external representation of knowledge for purposes of instruction (knowledge objects) and the internal representation and use of knowledge by learners (mental-models). If a student is taught a concise knowledge representation for different kinds of instructional outcomes, can the student use this representation as a meta-mental-model to facilitate their acquisition of specific mental-models.

Formal Cognitive Models of Data, Information, Knowledge, and Intelligence
It is recognized that data, information, knowledge, and intelligence are the fundamental cognitive objects in the brain and cognitive systems. However, there is a lack of formal studies and rigorous models towards them. This paper explores the cognitive and mathematical models of the cognitive objects. The taxonomy and cognitive foundations of abstract mental objects are explored. A set of math...
متن کاملEffective Design Principles for Activity-based Learning: the Crucial Role of 'learning Objects' in Science and Engineering Education
Before we ask what a learning object is, it is more appropriate to ask what learning is. From different perspectives, according to Jonassen (2003, in press), learning is biochemical activity in the brain; a relatively permanent change in behavior; information processing; awakening, remembering and recalling; social negotiation; critical thinking; knowledge construction; conceptual change; meani...
متن کاملSymplectic and symmetric methods for the numerical solution of some mathematical models of celestial objects
In the last years, the theory of numerical methods for system of non-stiff and stiff ordinary differential equations has reached a certain maturity. So, there are many excellent codes which are based on Runge–Kutta methods, linear multistep methods, Obreshkov methods, hybrid methods or general linear methods. Although these methods have good accuracy and desirable stability properties such as A...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Course Outcomes in Introductory Programming
Learning to program is difficult for many students. Although several factors that affect learning to program have been identified over the years, we are still far from a full understanding of why some students learn to program easily and quickly while others flounder. Two constructs that may affect learning to program are self-efficacy and mental models. Self-efficacy is the individual’s judgme...
متن کاملApplication of Rough Set Theory in Data Mining for Decision Support Systems (DSSs)
Decision support systems (DSSs) are prevalent information systems for decision making in many competitive business environments. In a DSS, decision making process is intimately related to some factors which determine the quality of information systems and their related products. Traditional approaches to data analysis usually cannot be implemented in sophisticated Companies, where managers ne...
